45 arrested in Punjab on charges of corruption so far

Chandigarh: Exhibiting zero tolerance against corruption, Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has so far in a short span of its tenure arrested 45 government officers and officials and others on charges of corruption.

From the day one after assuming charge of his office, the Chief Minister had promised corruption free, transparent and clean administration to people for which a number of initiatives have been taken.

He had released an anti-corruption helpline number to facilitate people for lodging their complaints against corruption through WhatsApp. This helpline has done miracles as people are using it as an effective tool in their war against corruption.

According to an official statement, based on genuine complaints the Punjab Police have registered 28 FIRs against the corrupt officers/officials and other offenders. The Chief Minister said, as quoted in the official statement, that this is just the beginning and the entire system will be cleaned by weeding out the corrupt officers and employees from it. 

On directions of the Chief Minister, the Vigilance Bureau has so far arrested One Sub Inspector of Police, eight Assistant Sub Inspectors, three head constables, one constable, one Home Guard of Police, two Patwaris, one clerk and a Nambardar, one data entry operator of the Punjab School Education Board, one principal of government ITI SAS Nagar, one medical officer, one Divisional Forest Officer and one member of summon server staff in Judicial department.

The Chief Minister said that no stone will be left unturned to wean away the menace of corruption from the system for providing clean, efficient and transparent government to the people. Mann said that the people have bestowed a huge responsibility on him and he is duty bound to fulfill the aspirations of people by giving them clean, transparent and responsive administration. /BI/
