Patna: Under the dynamic leadership of Principal Secretary of the Energy Department-cum-CMD Sanjeev Hans, Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited's DISCOM - North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) - has achieved two key milestones - fastest Smart Prepaid Meter (SPM) installation and saturation of Muzaffarpur Urban-2 Division, comprising large concentration of rural consumers.

The installation of 10 lakh SPMs in Muzaffarpur and Motihari Circles was completed within a record time of 14 months. Additionally, the saturation of the first rural division, Muzaffarpur Urban-2, with 91.02% concentration of rural consumers, showcases the growing acceptance of SPM in Bihar's rural landscape.

Contrary to initial skepticism, the successful installation of SPMs reflects the effectiveness of Hans' leadership and the dedication of the NBPDCL team. With over 29 lakh SPMs installed statewide, Bihar has emerged as a frontrunner in embracing digital solutions, a testament to the objectives of the Digital India program initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Digital India programme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 1, 2015 with an aim to transform India into a knowledge-based economy and a digitally empowered society by ensuring digital services, digital access, digital inclusion, digital empowerment and bridging the digital divide.

CMD Hans emphasised the transformative impact of SPMs, particularly in rural areas, highlighting plans to conduct a comprehensive study on their socio-economic impact. These efforts are expected to contribute significantly to revenue growth and the reduction of AT & C losses, ultimately benefiting consumers across Bihar.

Commending the efforts of the entire team, CMD Hans underscored Bihar's commitment to power sector reforms under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav. The saturation of Muzaffarpur Urban-2 Division exemplifies the state's progress in power management and service quality enhancement.

Looking ahead, the NBPDCL aims to extend SPM coverage to the entire consumer base, ensuring ease of life and improved service quality. The commitment of the NBPDCL team, as acknowledged by MD Dr Aditya Prakash, reflects a collective effort towards achieving these goals.
