C-DOT and IIT, Delhi sign an MoU IoT/M2M, AI/ML, Cyber Security and 5G & Beyond technologies

New Delhi: Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier Telecom R&D centre of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India and the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IITD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in various areas of Telecom spanning IoT/M2M, AI/ML, Cyber Security and 5G & Beyond technologies in New Delhi on Tuesday, September 27.
This MoU aims to evolve a mutually productive framework for collaboration between R&D and academia to spur the design & development of wholly indigenous Telecom solutions. This will be an effective platform for exchange of knowledge and skill amongst students, faculty and researchers right from the stage of ideation and conceptualization. The platform would act as a catalyst to further the transition of novel ideas into market-ready solutions, , according to a Press Information Bureau release.
C-DOT has been a pioneer in the field of Telecom since its inception in 1984. C-DOT has undertaken several cutting-edge R&D endeavours leading to the creation of a diverse product portfolio covering a wide array of technologies in the domains of Optical, Switching, Wireless, Security, Network Management and innovative Telecom Software applications. C-DOT has been instrumental in the development of home-grown 4G & 5G systems in collaboration with local industry, academia and startups.
IITD, an institute of national importance and Institute of Eminence (IoE) has been keenly working in the field of communication and associated technologies. Bharti School of Telecommunication at IITD has taken up its major initiative of multi-disciplinary advanced research and solution development for emerging national needs, in collaboration with industry and other premier R&D organizations.
Speaking at the MoU signing event, Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, Executive Director, C-DOT underscored the tremendous potential of synergy between R&D and academia as one of the key drivers of Prime Minister’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. Highlighting the stellar achievements of effective collaboration amongst partners of indigenous ecosystem leading to the cost-effective development of home-grown 4G & 5G, he expressed that complementary strengths of this partnership between C-DOT and IITD would unlock new opportunities for capturing the entire Telecom technology landscape with indigenous innovations. He further asserted that this MoU will lead to the generation of novel use-cases and futuristic Telecom solutions for wider deployment across a large volume of end-users. He further remarked that the convergence of academic excellence and innovative research will augment our national Intellectual Property (IP) assets.
Prof. Swades De, Head, Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology and Management, IITD, accentuated the need of having focused and productive frameworks for joint collaboration between academia and R&D, that would bring students, faculty and researchers closer to bridge the underlying gaps in an effective manner for faster design and development of commercially-viable, industry-grade and market-competitive technological solutions. He emphasized on the myriad dimensions of this collaboration-driven platform in leveraging the mutual strengths and complementarities to achieve ‘Atmanirbharta’ in Telecom sector. He wished this engagement between C-DOT and IITD a huge success.
Both C-DOT and IITD posed their trust into the efficacy of this collaborative platform and reiterated their firm commitments towards taking this further with a resounding success.

The exports of agricultural commodities from March to June 2020 shot up by 23.24 percent on-year to Rs 25,552.7 crores.
As the economy comes to a standstill amid the coronavirus-led lockdown, India’s agriculture sector has taken the baton of economic growth in its hands. The exports of agricultural commodities from March to June 2020 shot up by 23.24 percent on-year to Rs 25,552.7 crores, according to the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare. The government said that self-reliant agriculture is critical for the goal of an Atmanirbhar Bharat and for this, agricultural export is extremely important as besides earning foreign exchange for the country, the exports help farmers, producers, and exporters to take advantage of the wider international market and increase their income.
The surge in exports has also resulted in increased production in the farm sector by increasing coverage area and productivity. The share of India’s agricultural exports and imports in the world agriculture trade in 2017 was 2.27 percent and 1.90 percent, respectively. Even during the difficult time of pandemic lockdown, India took care not to disturb the world food supply chain and continued to export, the government said.
Ministry of Agriculture has prepared a comprehensive action plan for the promotion of Agri trade; the twofold approach focuses on boosting Agri Export with emphasis on value addition and action plan for Import Substitution. Recently, the Agriculture sector has witnessed a series of reforms, giving more choices to the farmers to sell their produce at competitive rates.
To mention a few, the Export strategy focuses on the export promotion of fast-evolving niche markets of Wellness food/ Health-conscious food/nutraceuticals, Development of “Brand India” in campaign mode to help penetration into new foreign markets and of new products which automatically translates into higher value realization, Gulf countries have been identified as focus destination to increase the market share which is a strong market for India though presently India caters to only 10-12% share of their total imports. A product-market matrix has been made containing a list of products of strength that could be expanded in new geographies and a list of known markets which can be introduced with newer products.
At the behest of the Department of Agricultural Cooperation & Farmers’ Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture, product-specific Export Promotion Forums have been created to lead Agri exports to new heights. Each Export Promotion Forum shall be having exporters of the related commodity as its members along with official members representing concerned Ministries/Departments of the Central and State Governments. Chairman APEDA shall be the chairman of each of these forums. The forums will meet at least once every two months, to discuss recommendations on issues pertaining to the export.
The recommendations of the forum will be placed in the product committee / Authority of APEDA. The Forum will keep in close contact with the concerned organization of the Ministry of Agriculture such as MIDH, Extension, NPPO, etc., DGFT, Ministry of Civil Aviation, MoFPI, etc. to further the interest of agricultural export.
