New Delhi: The surveillance and intelligence unit personnel of CISF on May 22 recovered Rs 45 lakh worth of UAE Dirham from a passenger at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.

The passenger in question has been identified as Vibhu Khuller, an Indian national, who had intended to travel from Delhi to Dubai on Air India Flight No. AI 995, scheduled to depart at 20:30 hours.

Due to the suspicion surrounding his activities, he was directed to undergo a random thorough inspection of his luggage at a designated checkpoint. Upon scanning his baggage using an X-BIS machine, an image of concern was observed, said the CISF in a statement.

Subsequently, the passenger was permitted to proceed with the check-in procedures while being closely monitored through both physical and electronic surveillance methods. Following successful completion of the check-in and immigration formalities, the passenger was intercepted by the surveillance and intelligence personnel of the CISF and escorted to the Customs Office for departure.

In the presence of Customs officials, a thorough inspection of the passenger's carry-on bag was conducted, revealing the presence of concealed currency amounting to 200,000 UAE Dirham, approximately valued at 45 lakh INR.

Upon inquiry, the passenger failed to provide proper documentation to justify the possession of such a significant amount of foreign currency. As a result, the passenger, along with the confiscated 200,000 UAE Dirham was transferred into the custody of the Customs officials for further necessary steps and investigation, added the CISF. /BI
