CISF spoils gold smugglers’ party of 4.7 kgs gold at IGI Airport

New Delhi: In a massive crackdown, the alert officials of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Friday apprehended two passenger from Uzbekistan on their way to Tashkent and seized 4.7 kgs gold in form of chains from them. At its current value, these chains are worth over Rs 3 crore.
A CISF release said that on November 1 in the morning, “during pre-embarkation security checks at security hold area, Terminal-3, IGI Airport, while screening the hand baggages through X-BIS machine CISF personnel noticed suspicious images in a hand baggage. On physical checking of the bag, gold chains weighing 4.7 kg were detected.” The passenger was later identified as Uzbekistan national Akbar Anvarov Avaz Ugli who along with co-passenger and fellow national Sabirov Abdurakhmon Rakhimon Ugli were headed for Tashkent by
Uzbekistan Airways flight No. HY-422 (STD-0830 hrs).
On enquiry, both the passengers could not produce supporting documents/bill for carrying such huge quantity of gold chains. “The matter was informed to senior officers of CISF and Customs Officials. Later, the said passengers along-with detected gold chains were handed over to Customs for further action in the matter,” the release added.
With over 700 national and international flights and 1.9 lakh passengers load everyday, Terminal 3 is among the busiest airports in the world, and the CISF has its task cut out. Over the years, the Force has displayed extraordinary professionalism and efficiency. /BI/
