DRI seized 2.465 kg of foreign marked gold

Bhubaneswar: In a swift operation, following a tip off, officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday seized 2.465 kgs of foreign marked gold in the form of gold biscuits and ten tola bars from a premise in the city. An arrest was made and further investigations revealed that the gold was illegally smuggled into the country.

The seized gold and arrested person have been booked under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. The arrested person has been remanded to judicial custody and detailed investigation in this matter is underway.

DRI is the apex agency of the Indian Customs in the field of anti-smuggling in India. DRI enforces the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962 and over fifty other allied Acts including the Arms Act, NDPS Act, COFEPOSA, Wildlife Act, Antiquities Act etc. DRI undertakes collection, collation, analysis and dissemination of intelligence relating to smuggling, carries out investigations, adjudication of cases and prosecution of the arrested persons.
