Ghaziabad: Once neglected, a pond at the entrance of Ghaziabad has undergone a remarkable transformation, standing today as a mesmerizing #AmritSarovar, radiating renewed vitality and a community pride.

The trigger behind this revival is Vikramaditya Singh Malik, IAS and the newly appointed Municipal Commissioner of Ghaziabad. As CDO Ghaziabad, he has spearheaded a campaign to breathe life back into Ghaziabad's forgotten water bodies. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary 'Amrit Sarovar' initiative, this endeavor seeks not only to restore the ponds but also to weave them into the very fabric of the city's identity.

In an interview with Bureaucrats India, Malik shared his insights on the transformative journey. Reflecting on the challenges faced, he remarked, "Navigating the complex urban landscape of Ghaziabad came with its fair share of challenges, ranging from financial constraints to the encroachment of these precious natural spaces. We came up with innovative and ingenious solutions. Strategic collaborations were forged with corporate entities to secure the necessary funding, streamlining hurdles in procedures and regulations."

A harmonious blend of stringent enforcement and active community engagement played a pivotal role in addressing the issue of unauthorized encroachments.

Central to this transformative journey is a robust groundwater management strategy that delicately balances the utilization and replenishment of this invaluable resource. Guided by the expertise of stalwarts such as Ramveer Tanwar, affectionately known as India's Pondman, the project has been firmly rooted in scientific principles and best practices. The vision extends beyond mere restoration, aspiring to seamlessly integrate these 'Amrit Sarovars' into the urban landscape, enveloped by lush greenery that not only enhances the aesthetics but also facilitates essential groundwater recharge.

As Ghaziabad's administration prepares to embark on the rejuvenation of additional ponds, the city's once-forgotten water bodies are poised for a remarkable renaissance. City's restored ponds stand as a living testament to the power of efficient leadership and community engagement.
