Chandigarh: Every possible effort will be made to make Punjab Agro Foodgrains Corporation (PAFC) a vibrant and robust organization, said Jagdeep Singh Sandhu, who took over as its chairman on Tuesday, adding that the wrongdoings of the previous governments with regard to PAFC will be probed and the guilty will be brought to book.

Sandhu said: “It is an opportunity for me. AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann have reposed their faith in me. I will aim at putting PAFC on the growth track. The previous governments made PAFC a loss-making organization. We will conduct a proper inquiry into the wrongdoings by earlier incumbents and take punitive action against those found responsible. No one will be spared.”

Speaking to media persons after taking over the charge as PAFC chairman at its headquarters in Sector 28 on Madhya Marg, Sandhu said that he would first thoroughly review the functioning of PAFC before embarking on its reform.

“PAFC has become a white elephant and is currently burdened with a huge debt.  We will try to resurrect the organization or simply shut it down. However, I am hopeful that our honest and sincere efforts will lead to a new dawn in the PAFC, which has suffered a lot because of uninterrupted corrupt practices of the earlier regimes,” he added.

Sandhu said that he is keen to ensure that PAFC starts procuring grains such as moong daal and other such cash crops from farmers to improve their economic situation. “The procurement will be done with total transparency,” Sandhu, also Vice President of Youth Wing of AAP Punjab, said. “My aim is to make PAFC financially self-sustainable,” he added. /BI/
