New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming Onam and Rakhi festivities, the Central Cabinet has announced a noteworthy reduction in LPG prices. This decision, reflecting the government's commitment to providing relief to consumers, comes at a crucial time with looming Assembly elections in five states and the possibility of early Lok Sabha elections.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur shared that the cabinet has taken swift action to alleviate the burden on LPG consumers. As part of this move, the prices of domestic LPG cylinders are being slashed by Rs 200 per cylinder.

This announcement follows recent adjustments made by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), which saw prices for commercial LPG being revised while keeping domestic cooking gas rates unchanged. Notably, a significant price reduction of Rs 99.75 was implemented for 19 kg commercial LPG gas cylinders starting August 1, effectively lowering the retail selling price to Rs 1,680 in Delhi.

For domestic use, the pricing of 14.2 kg LPG cooking gas cylinders has remained stable since March 1 of this year. In July, there was a nominal increase of Rs 50 in the price of domestic LPG cylinders, with varying prices for non-subsidized domestic LPG cylinders across cities like Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai.

Additionally, the government has extended its gesture of goodwill to Ujwala gas beneficiaries by reducing prices by Rs 400.
