Punjab attracts investments worth Rs 21,000 cr

Chandigarh: Minister for Investment Promotion, Labour and Tourism Anmol Gagan Mann has said that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, industry-friendly policies have attracted investment worth Rs 21000 crore in the state. The influx of new industries and startups is expected to create more than 90,000 job opportunities in Punjab.

She was addressing a session on ‘Promoting Industrial Growth and Investments in Punjab’ with a focus on ease of doing business, tourism, taxation, power and labour organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries here. “I welcome all industrialists to invest in Punjab, especially in the agri and food-processing sectors, and to give their suggestions for improving the investment climate in Punjab,” she said.

She said that the state government is working towards providing a seamless experience for the new industries and investors as they set up their businesses in Punjab. Highlighting the strength of the industrial environment in the state, the Cabinet Minister shared that connectivity in terms of road, railways, and airways is conducive to promoting industrial investment in the region. The Government of Punjab has also assured the availability of leasehold land.

Member, Rajya Sabha and Chairman, Sun Foundation, Vikramjit Singh Sahney shared a few suggestions to promote industrial growth in Punjab. He suggested establishing a focal point in the State in the Public-Private-Partnership model. He also proposed giving impetus to the agri value chain and exploring international markets for giving a boost to agri exports.

Principal Secretary, Power, Tourism and Cultural Affairs and Governance Reforms and Grievances Redressal, Government of Punjab, Tejveer Singh said: “As a part of the G20 summit, we have a great opportunity to showcase heritage cities such as Amritsar in Punjab to enhance tourism in the State. Punjab has huge potential and collectively, we should strive to give an impetus to the tourism sector by attracting investments.”

CEO of Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion and Commissioner – Excise and Taxation, Punjab, Kamal Kishor Yadav said that the Punjab government is in the process of creating a policy in which proper aftercare for the industry will be taken care of, especially for investors from other states. /BI/
