Gurugram: In a significant move towards promoting social welfare, the REC Foundation, the CSR arm of REC Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO). This collaboration aims to provide assistance of ₹10 crore for the project titled "Distribution of aids & assistive devices to persons with disabilities" in 25 locations across the country.

The MoA was formalized by Bhupesh Chandolia, Senior GM & HoD, REC Foundation, and Ajay Chaudhary, GM Marketing, ALIMCO. The project, to be implemented by ALIMCO, a Government of India PSU, is geared towards benefiting thousands of people from deprived classes of society, empowering them through the distribution of aids and assistive devices.

The primary objective of the project is to enhance the lives of persons with disabilities by providing them with assistive devices that can significantly improve their functional abilities and restore confidence. The initiative is expected to benefit five to six thousand individuals and will be executed in 25 locations nationwide.

The assistive devices provided through this project are designed to be durable and have low maintenance requirements. As the capital costs are covered under the project, the beneficiaries can enjoy the benefits of these devices without incurring additional expenses for maintenance.

REC Limited, established in 1969 under the Ministry of Power, is a Maharatna CPSE providing long-term loans and financial products for the power infrastructure sector, including areas such as generation, transmission, distribution, and renewable energy. In recent years, REC has diversified into non-power infrastructure sectors, contributing to roads, expressways, metro rail, airports, IT communication, social and commercial infrastructure, ports, and electro-mechanical works for various other sectors.

ALIMCO, a not-for-profit organization registered under the Companies Act 1956, operates under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. The organization is dedicated to serving persons with disabilities and plays a crucial role in providing them with assistive devices for a better quality of life.

Through this collaboration, REC Foundation and ALIMCO are poised to make a meaningful impact on the lives of persons with disabilities, fostering inclusivity and empowerment across diverse communities in India. This initiative reflects the commitment of both organizations to corporate social responsibility and creating positive change in society. /BI/
