Senior IPS officer Basant Rath of J&K resigns

Srinagar: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Jammu and Kashmir Basant Rath has resigned and has expressed his desire to join the ‘noble profession’ of politics, as hinted by him in a tweet where he posted his resignation letter. addressed to the Chief Secretary, J&K. A native of Odisha, Rath is a 2000 batch IPS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre.

Rath as the IGP Traffic had introduced several innovative measures for effective management of traffic in Srinagar by taking on high and mighty who were found guilty of violating traffic norms. He had also earned people’s goodwill during his posting in Kashmir where he had distributed free books to students preparing for competitive exams. /BI/
