Kollam: Trikovilvattam gram panchayat is ready to catch those who throw garbage in public places. As the trend of littering in public places and water bodies has increased, CCTV cameras have been installed at various places in the Gram Panchayat as a permanent solution to this.

Currently, CCTVs have been installed at Kottayakunn, Kanianthod, Toyota Road, Palamuk and Cherupushpam Convent Road. With the help of Green Karma Sena, cleanliness drive was taken up in many areas, but when the garbage piled up again, it was decided to set up the camera. The cameras are sensitive and will be able to spot those who are travelling by their vehicles, and dumping garbage, even in night hours.

The project was implemented by spending Rs 7.49 lakh in the 2022-23 annual plan. The aim of the project is to transform Trikovilvatta into a completely waste-free village panchayat by promoting waste management at source, according to an IPR release of Government of Kerala.

Gram panchayat president L Jalajakumari said that strict action will be taken against those who throw garbage, including fines. Steps are in progress to install cameras at ESI Junction and Upasana Road.
