New Delhi: Deepak Gupta has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Ltd, with effect from the date of assumption of charge on or after March 1, 2026. His appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and disclosed through a regulatory filing by the company.
Currently serving as Director (Projects) at GAIL, Gupta will hold the top post until his superannuation on February 28, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
A seasoned energy sector professional, Gupta has played a key role in driving GAIL’s large-scale infrastructure expansion. As Director (Projects), he has overseen the execution of major natural gas pipeline networks, petrochemical projects, and capacity augmentation initiatives across the country. With extensive experience in project management, engineering and strategic expansion, he has been instrumental in strengthening GAIL’s transmission backbone and supporting India’s push towards a gas-based economy.
His elevation to CMD comes at a crucial juncture as GAIL continues to expand its pipeline footprint, enhance LNG capabilities, and align with the government’s vision of increasing the share of natural gas in the energy mix.
